Adult Education is offering a class at 10:30 am, Sundays, June 3 through July 1.
What is Biblical Theology and Why is It Saying These Terrible Things About Us? What will be our relationship with the Bible in the 21st century? To begin our time of discernment here at Our Saviours, we will investigate how attitudes and assumptions about the Bible and its descriptive and devotional meanings have changed during our lifetimes. In this five-week study, led by Char Heeg, we will be reading an article published 50 years ago: Krister Stendahl's groundbreaking "Contemporary Biblical Theology" from the 1962 edition of The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible. With the benefit of hindsight, we will be able to see which of Stendahl's predictions concerning Biblical study in the Church have come to pass in the last 50 years, which have not, and why. Readings for the class will be available both in hard copy and online. Participants must be over age eighteen and willing to do homework! Even if you know you will miss some of the sessions, you may still register for this study; but please do register, so that we know how many copies to make!
